The Cyclone is an historic wooden roller coaster, that opened on June 26, 1927 in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn, New York City. It is a result from the the success of 1925's Thunderbolt and 1926's Tornado. Designer Vernon Keenan was invited to design a new roller coaster with an investment of $100,000. On June 18, 1975, it was contracted to operate under an agreement with New York City and later completely rehabilitated and opened to enthusiastic crowds on July 1, 1975. In 2011, Luna Park took over operation of the Cyclone from its original operator, the owner of the Astroland Park Dewey and Jerome Albert. It was declared a New York City landmark on July 12, 1988, and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 26, 1991.
